The Green Chemistry Initiative (GCI) at the University of Toronto was founded in September of 2012 by a group of graduate students in the Department of Chemistry. In search of a way to decrease the environmental impact of their own chemistry research, while educating others in the department and the community on the principles and merits of green chemistry, the Green Chemistry Initiative was founded to promote sustainable practices in the lab and in everyday life.
Since then, the GCI has grown into a full-fledged, university-funded organization. The group is proud to host monthly seminars by cutting-edge researchers and industry partners, waste reduction campaigns, social events and workshops, and to provide resources and literature to the department and the public at large. On our blog you will find a collection of posts written by various members of the GCI to help our followers keep up to date on topics related to green chemistry, sustainability and different projects we are working on.
